Federal Benefits
The American Embassy in Luxembourg is not a claims-taking post, but the Consular Section will assist claimants and beneficiaries with general inquiries and accept applications for a Social Security number or federal benefits, and help to replace or amend Social Security cards.

Applications for Federal Benefits
The Consular Section will record your intent to file for federal benefits and forward it to the FBU in Brussels. During the application process, certified copies requested from the FBU can be provided to the beneficiary at the Consular Section as well.
Changes in payee status
The Consular Section will report any changes such as an address change, name change, the death of a payee or of a beneficiary to the FBU in Brussels.
Overdue/lost/stolen checks
The Consular Section will report the non-receipt of a check and if necessary request a replacement check through the FBU in Brussels.
Fees
No processing fees are charged for services related to federal benefits.
