Notarials and Authentication Services

The Consular Section provides notarial services to U.S. citizens for use in the U.S. or abroad, or to aliens for use in the U.S. Please contact the Consular Section, if you have doubts that a specific notarial service can be performed


Examples of notarial/authentication acts:

  • Acknowledgements (on documents such as deeds, mortgages, contracts for sale of land, and powers of attorney) 
    Requirements: the individual has to appear in person and prove his identity.
  • Affidavits (a written statement or sworn declaration).  Requirements: the affiant has to appear in person and prove his identity.

  • Certification of true copies (depending on purpose and context in which the  document will be used)

Fees:

$30.00 or the equivalent amount in Euro for first or only notarial deed.
$20.00 for each additional notarial signature in same document.

Hours:

Thursday 8:30-11:30am and 1:30-3pm. No appointment is necessary.

Preparation of notarial document:

In preparation of the deed, please complete blanks in the document, except signatures to be executed in front of the Consul. If the notarial deed has to be witnessed, please bring witnesses with you. Consular Section staff may NOT be witnesses for notarial purposes.


Please read the document to be signed under oath before you come to the Consular Section. The Consular Officer will not give any explanation of your document.

Affidavits for Luxembourg authorities:

Local authorities may require several documents for administrative processing of different applications. The Consular Section can provide following affidavits to US citizens who plan to establish residency in Luxembourg.

  • Affidavit for Luxembourg residence permit
  • "extrait de casier judiciare" (police record)
  • Affidavit for Luxembourg driver's license
  • Affidavit of ‘free to marry’ (in view of marriage in Luxembourg)

Those affidavits are not public records, but statements signed under oath, without any verification of the content ($30.00/affidavit).
